One of the most common sources of questions is the western saddle itself.  And before anyone asks, no you can't use the same saddle on any horse!  Fitting the western saddle requires the same skill as fitting any other saddle. It has to fit both you and your horse and be fit for the job required. Don't be tempted to buy something cheap and expect it to be best quality, and be aware that sub-standard equipment can sometimes be dangerous. For now we'll just begin by helping you to understand the various parts of the saddle, but in the near future we'll include some more information about fitting and about what saddle is appropriate for what job.
